Saturday marks a year since two nurses and a doctor were stabbed at Encino Hospital Medical Center, but hospital employees say more needs to be done to protect them.The nurses' union, SEIU Local 121RN, held a press conference Friday to call for more safety measures like security guards and metal detectors, the Los Angeles Daily News reported. The union says in the 364 days since the then 35-year-old Ashkan Amirsoleymani allegedly stabbed hospital employees and then barricaded himself in the facility, nurses were promised more security and support.“Even before the attack on our emergency department, nurses were calling for more security,” Gloria Mateos, an emergency room nurse at the hospital, told the Daily News. “That incident should have woken them up.”In a statement to KTLA, a hospital spokesperson said "Encino Hospital Medical Center is committed to making our hospital a safe place for care." Auto-Pedestrian Collision near Maryland Parkway Left 1 Man DeadLAS VEGAS, NV (June 2, 2023) – Sunday night, police arrested Josue Ghione following a fatal DUI collision on Sahara Avenue.The accident happened on May 21st at about 9:30 p.m. along Sahara Avenue just east of Maryland Parkway.According to the Nevada State Patrol, a Honda Civic was driving west on Sahara when it collided with a man walking in the street outside of a marked crosswalk.Paramedics arrived and transported the critically injured pedestrian to Sunrise Hospital. A driver who fled a traffic stop later died during a police chase when he crashed his vehicle Thursday night in Brentwood.Brentwood police said an officer was patrolling the area of Sand Creek Road and O’Hara Avenue at 7:06 p.m., when he saw a vehicle commit a vehicle code violation. After stopping the vehicle, the officer observed that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, police said.According to police, the driver drove off in the middle of the traffic stop and the officer followed in a pursuit. Shortly thereafter, the driver crashed his vehicle, and though officers provided aid, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and died on the scene.Police are not releasing the name of the driver pending notification of relatives. (KRON) -- One student suffered minor injuries in an altercation between a small group of students involving a knife Friday morning at San Mateo High School, according to the San Mateo Police Department. The altercation took place at around 9:45 a.m. and involved a group of students attending the San Mateo High Summer School Program. 3 dead, 2 injured after crime spree in San Jose, Milpitas; suspect arrested San Mateo PD officers arrived on campus and secured the scene for medics to treat the victim. The victim suffered only minor injuries, police said. They were treated by school wellness staff prior to the arrival of medics.All students are safe and there are no other injuries or ongoing threats, police said. (KRON) -- A man who police say crashed into a light pole in Petaluma and caused it to collapse early Friday morning has been arrested for DUI, the Petaluma Police Department said. Petaluma PD officers were dispatched to Petaluma Boulevard South at Crystal Lake at around 12:29 a.m. on a report of a solo vehicle collision. Student injured in altercation with knife at San Mateo High School Arriving on the scene, officers were informed that a vehicle had crashed into the roundabout. The collision caused damage to a light pole leading to it collapse, according to police.Officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Eric Miller. Miller showed objective signs of alcohol impairment, according to police.
