San Jose Sharks center Tomas Hertl on Thursday revealed the painful reason why he had to miss one of the team’s games earlier this week.Hertl said after the Sharks’ 3-0 loss to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden that he had a kidney stone and needed a surgical procedure on Monday to have it removed.“It was a pretty (crappy) situation,” Hertl said. “It was pretty painful, but I felt good for tonight, so I jumped in.”Hertl did not participate in the Sharks’ morning skate in Boston but came out for pregame warmups and was later inserted into the lineup once coach David Quinn knew the forward was good to go.Hertl had 22:08 of ice time with one shot on net, as he and linemates Mike Hoffman and William Eklund were each -2 for the game. Jake Spavital is leaving Cal after one season to become offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Baylor, where head coach and defensive specialist Dave Aranda was retained after a 3-9 season.Aranda, who is 23-25 in his four seasons, announced Spavital’s hiring Thursday. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The Golden State Warriors are without forward Andrew Wiggins against the Los Angeles Clippers Thursday, but it is not due to an injury he suffered on the court. Head Coach Steve Kerr said that Wiggins injured his index finger when he slammed it in a car door Thursday morning. DALLAS (AP) — Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller turned himself in to police in a Dallas suburb on Thursday after he was charged in a warrant with domestic violence against the mother of his children, who is pregnant, police said.Dallas police confirmed that the 34-year-old Miller surrendered to police in the suburb of Glenn Heights to face a charge of third-degree felony assault of a pregnant woman, which is punishable by 2 to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.The alleged assault occurred on Wednesday, according to a police affidavit in which officers wrote that Miller twice put his hands on the neck of the woman, pulled out a chunk of her hair and threw her onto a couch. The woman was treated for minor injuries, including bruising on her neck, police said.Miller was free after posting $5,000 bond at the DeSoto Regional Jail in his hometown, Glenn Heights police said.
