Happy Sunday, South Florida!Hopefully everyone had a nice start to the weekend. The work week ended on a quiet note and after windy conditions with on and off showers across our area all week, South Florida finally saw nice conditions on Saturday. This morning we once again woke up to quiet conditions with a mix of sun and clouds and a building breeze. There could be some change in the horizon. The weather pattern might be changing as we work our way into the work week. A little more in the way of moisture could be returning to the forecast, which means South Florida could expect a few more showers than what we experienced on Saturday. The day won’t be a washout but South Florida could notice a few more showers from time to time around lunch time. Winds will still remain breezy at times but wind speeds will not be as strong as ...

Moscow to retaliate in kind if EU uses profits from frozen Russia assets: Putin ally

Published Fri, 15 Nov 2024 01:09:19 GMT

Moscow is preparing to confiscate the assets of “unfriendly” EU nations in retaliation if the bloc pushes ahead with a proposal to seize the profits from frozen Russian holdings, a high-level Russian official said on Sunday. The warning from Vyacheslav Volodin, head of the lower house of Russia’s parliament, came after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Friday said the EU executive is looking into sanctioned Russian state assets as a way to help worn-torn Ukraine rebuild. The move, she stressed, aligns with a previous political decision to hold Moscow accountable for Ukraine’s reconstruction following Russian President Vladimir Putin all-out invasion of the country. Volodin, a Putin ally, made clear that if EU forges ahead with the proposal, Moscow’s reaction would inflict more economic pain on the EU than the other way round.“A number of European politicians, led by the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, ...

New Hampshire’s presidential primary ballots will have 24 Republicans and 21 Democrats, but no Biden

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A presidential primary filing period marked by lights, cameras and (in)action has come to a close at the New Hampshire secretary of state’s office. Two weeks before he dropped out, former Vice President Mike Pence was the only candidate to have his own studio lights shining on him as he signed up for the yet-to-be-scheduled Republican contest next year.Former President Donald Trump’s staff ripped up tape from the carpet that reserved spots for local journalists and put his campaign photographer up front instead.President Joe Biden skipped signing up altogether, in deference to changes that the Democratic National Committee is making to the nominating calendar. While Biden will rely on a write-in campaign, the Democratic ballot hardly will be blank. U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota simultaneously announced his campaign and signed up to get on the ballot on Friday, the final day of the filing period. Self-help author Mar...

Macron vows to enshrine women’s rights to abortion in French Constitution in 2024

Published Fri, 15 Nov 2024 01:09:19 GMT

PARIS (AP) — President Emmanuel Macron promised on Sunday to enshrine a woman’s right to an abortion in the French Constitution by next year. The president said on X, formerly Twitter, that a bill making this possible would be presented to his Cabinet by the end of this year so that “in 2024, the freedom of women to have an abortion will be irreversible.” Abortion in France was decriminalized under a 1975 law, but there is nothing in the constitution that would guarantee abortion rights. It was the rollback of abortion rights in the United States after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a 50-year-old ruling last year and stripped women’s constitutional protections for abortion that propelled France on a path toward unconditionally guaranteeing such rights.Macron, honoring feminist Gisele Halimi in March, said he wanted to change the constitution in order “to enshrine the freedom of women to have an abortion, to solemnly ensure that nothing can stop or undo what will be irreversi...
