Movie review: ‘Dream Scenario’ busy with cultural commentary but not exactly deep

Writer/director Kristoffer Borgli is interested in attention. Specifically, he’s interested in the paradoxical postmodern predicament of our addiction to attention, and the ways in which capitalism constantly cannibalizes it, chewing through our time, neurons and emotions like Pac-Man. In his debut feature “Sick of Myself,” set in his native Oslo, Norway, Borgli tracked one young woman’s desperate bids for attention through a series of contrived situations to showcase her suffering and martyrdom. In his second feature, “Dream Scenario,” Borgli sets his sights on America, and imagines what happens when someone gets too much attention for doing nothing at all.The script for “Dream Scenario” feels like three ideas loosely woven into one absurdist screenplay. The first strand is the oddball but oddly simple premise based on a relatably awkward notion: what if everyone in the world started dreaming about one person? The subject in question ...Emergency service convoy with Fulton, Montgomery Counties

A Masters deegie from the Wiltern: L.A. pop-punk artist deegie told us about her Wiltern experiences.deegie: I’ve seen some wild shows between living in New York and LA. I saw Billy Joel’s Madison Square Garden residency twice, I was there for The 1975’s infamous December 2014 show at Terminal 5, aka Kissgate (to be gaylor on main), and I caught Bruce Springsteen’s cameo in Bleachers’ Radio City set last summer. I’ve seen the 1989 Tour at Staples Center, been backstage for Wyclef Jean, and geeked out at Ben Fold’s Grammy Museum performance. But my favorite shows ever have been at the Wiltern Theatre in L,.A.It’s a gorgeous art deco vaudeville era theater, and former Warner Brothers movie palace, so just being in the space feels monumental and magical. Two bands, on separate occasions, made it transcendent for me: The Mowglis, with their warm fuzzy indie rock and their pure joy onstage, enveloped me in their spirit of universal love. And Smallpools, a band I’ve seen many times, me...4 amazing things to do at Safari West in Santa Rosa

Peter Lang first heard the call of the wild as a little boy, scampering around Hollywood backlots in the ‘60s as his filmmaker father, Otto, worked on TV shows such as “Flipper,” “Daktari” and “Sea Hunt.”Beguiled by the lions and chimps he befriended on the “Daktari” set, the young Lang felt a deep connection to nature. It sparked a passion for animal conservation that led him to raise African eland, large antelopes with oxlike bodies, and eventually inspired him to found Safari West, a 400-acre nature preserve tucked amid the rolling hills of Santa Rosa, in 1993.For Lang and his wife, Nancy, a zoologist, this is more than just a wildlife refuge. It’s their life’s work. During the devastating 2017 Tubbs Fire in Santa Rosa, Lang refused to abandon the preserve. As the flames approached, he made everyone else evacuate, grabbed a garden hose and a shovel and fought the fire. He stood guard all night, making sure that all 1,000 animals — from the giraffes and the cheetahs to rhinos and ...25+ Bay Area beer and wine events to enjoy this winter
