UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo -- Police responded to a break-in at a former seafood market and restaurant and arrested the suspect for stealing over $1,200 in air freshenersUniversity Police were called to Olive Boulevard at 11:26 p.m. on November 16 following reports of a break-in at an abandoned building in University City, previously a seafood market and restaurant now used for storage.When officers arrived, they discovered the building, stocked with air fresheners, had been broken into. (AP) — A man has been found guilty in the death of a woman whose remains were found inside a duffel bag along a rural northwest Missouri road almost two weeks after she was killed at a Kansas City hotel.Marcus Brooks was convicted Thursday of first-degree murder in the death of 21-year-old Ariel Starcher, a mother of two from Independence, The St. Joseph News-Press reports. SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WMBD) -- As firearm deer hunting season is underway, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is offering tree stand safety tips as tree stands are the number one source of hunting-related accidents in Illinois.“Our utmost priority is ensuring hunters’ safety so they can return home unharmed after every hunt,” said Jed Whitchurch, director of IDNR’s Office of Law Enforcement. “While we want them to enjoy themselves and achieve success in the field, we emphasize putting safety first. Our recommendation for hunters is to prioritize safety above all other considerations.”There have been three tree stand falls/injuries reported so far in the fall 2023 hunting season, one in Jefferson County where a hunter fell and broke two legs, one in Saline County where a hunter fell 25 feet from a tree stand, and one in Cass County where a hunter fell from a tree stand. Three people were seriously injured Sunday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash in Aurora ended with one car hitting a building, trapping two people in the vehicle.The crash happened in the area of East Hampden Avenue and Uravan Way around 1:40 p.m. Sunday, Aurora Fire Rescue said in a social media post.When responders arrived on scene, they found two vehicles were involved in the crash, with two people trapped inside one of them.Fire crews were able to extricate both patients by 2 p.m. and transported them to local emergency departments with potentially life-threatening injuries.AFR crews have been able to successfully extricate both patients and are transporting them to local emergency departments. Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, the closest adviser to Jimmy Carter during his one term as U.S. president, has died at the age of 96.The Carter Center said she died Sunday after living with dementia and suffering many months of declining health. The statement announcing her death said she “died peacefully, with family by her side” at 2:10 p.m. at her home in the rural south Georgia community of Plains.“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” Carter said in the statement. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it.
