When the CZU Lightning Complex Fire burned through Big Basin Redwoods State Park in the Santa Cruz Mountains in August 2020, it blackened 97% of the land in California’s oldest state park, radically altering the awe-inspiring old-growth redwood forests that have been enjoyed for generations of families since the park opened in 1902.Scientists at Northern Arizona University placed a camera in a redwood tree in April 2021, about 1 mile from the park’s headquarters building, which burned in the fire. The camera has taken photos almost daily, documenting the remarkable recovery of the redwood giants in only three years. Although many Douglas firs and other trees were killed, 90% of the redwoods survived. The video below shows monthly photographs taken from April 8, 2021 to Nov. 20, 2023.Arizona football: Tracing the roots of the Wildcats’ rise, from the 2020 gutter to the 2023 title chase

Only four schools are currently represented in both the College Football Playoff rankings and the Associated Press men’s basketball top 25. Three of them have massive stadiums and enormous budgets. The other is Arizona. These are exhilarating times for the Wildcats, who not long ago were immersed in a basketball recruiting scandal and relegated to the Pac-12 football gutter. Now, they’re in rarified air with only Alabama, Tennessee and Texas. The on-court success is slightly unexpected — we did not foresee the victory at Duke — but lands well within a reasonable range given the program’s regular-season proficiency under third-year coach Tommy Lloyd. But the on-field performance qualifies as an indisputable surprise, and it comes just three years after a 70-7 loss to Arizona State that ended Kevin Sumlin’s tenure and constituted perhaps the lowest point in program history.Weeks later, Jedd Fisch was hired to execute a salvage operation in college footb...49ers QB Brock Purdy is NFC Offensive Player of the Week

Perfection was recognized Wednesday when 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.Purdy was 21 of 25 for 333 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in a 27-14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In the NFL system of passing efficiency that rewards a high completion percentage and a lack of turnovers, Purdy’s 158.3 rating is the highest possible score. It was the first perfect score by a 49ers quarterback since Joe Montana did it in Week 10 of the 1989 season, and it marks the first time Purdy has won the award. After checking in with a 148.9 rating in the previous week’s 34-3 win over Jacksonville, Purdy becomes the first quarterback since Drew Brees in 2018 to put up a 145.0 or better in consecutive weeks. The back-to-back games came after the 49ers had lost three straight and Purdy had thrown five interceptions, which invited skeptics of the final pick of the 2021 NFL Draft to wonder if a steady decline in performance had begun.Goi...Penthouse model accuses Axl Rose of violent 1989 sexual assault

"He treated her like property used solely for his sexual pleasure. Kennedy did not consent and felt overpowered. She felt she had no escape or exit. She believed Rose would physically attack her, or worse, if she said no or attempted to push him away," the lawsuit states.
