Keeler: Meet Josh Snyder, the 5-11 Columbine Goliath who dethroned Dave Logan’s Cherry Creek football dynasty

FORT COLLINS — Josh Snyder is an open book. He just wishes some more college programs would pick the darn thing up.“I mean, I’m trying to put myself out there,” Columbine’s senior tailback told me with a chuckle, his laugh a frosty cloud of breath after carrying the Rebels to a Class 5A state football title. His X bio lists every meaningful digit but the kid’s cellphone and Social Security numbers, naked to Elon Musk and the world. Says right here he boasts a 4.5 GPA, 405-pound squat, 260-pound bench, 4.5 40-yard dash, 7.11-second 60-meter official track time.Dude might want to add this number: 226 page-turning, all-purpose yards at Canvas Stadium that stonewalled Dave Logan and Cherry Creek from nailing a historic five-peat.“I wanted this so bad,” said Snyder, still grinning after dropping 128 rushing yards, a 98-yard kick return and three touchdowns on the bigger, badder Bruins. “And that’s what motivated me — that t...PHOTOS: Columbine upends Cherry Creek in 2023 5A State Football Championship

On the occasion of his 35th birthday, let us celebrate Russell Wilson for embracing one of the hardest things for the male ego to do. The quarterback formerly known as Mr. Unlimited has accepted he isn’t as good as he once was.“I feel great. I feel young. I feel fast. I feel confident,” Wilson said Wednesday, explaining why he’s not afraid of any edge rusher or Father Time catching him from behind. At 35, Wilson almost certainly will never again be a candidate for MVP of the NFL. But neither should we expect him to suffer a midlife crisis, because Wilson has adopted a brave refusal to be entrapped by his ego. After a horrendous 1-5 start, the Broncos have played themselves back into playoff contention, while Wilson has inserted himself into the conversation about Comeback Player of the Year, in no small measure because Russ has decided he would rather win than cook. While it’s hard to argue Wilson is worth the five-year, $245 million contract extension that doesn’t kick in until next s...Larchmont Village residents disturbed over increase in violent crimes

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Amari Williams blocked a shot that ignited a Drexel celebration — yellow and blue streamers were chucked on the court — decades in the making for a program long the outsider on the Philly hoops scene.Let the old-timers spin tales about the faded, glory days of the Big 5.The Dragons — with all of five total NCAA Tournament appearances — crashed the City Series this season and showed life in a reimagined pseudo-conference can be pretty glorious in the present, too.Williams scored 12 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked No. 18 Villanova’s tying-attempt with 3 seconds left to help Drexel upset the Wildcats 57-55 on Saturday in the inaugural Big 5 Classic at the Wells Fargo Center.Turns out, the sixth team in the Big 5 can play some ball.“We weren’t in awe,” Drexel coach Zach Spiker said, “at all.”With good reason, perhaps.Villanova (6-3) didn’t just lose, it fell to 0-3 in a series of Big 5 games that was designed to crown a city basketball champion. The Big 5 Cla...No. 8 Alabama sets off CFP chaos, No. 7 Texas makes emphatic case as selection controversy looms

The final four-team College Football Playoff is poised to be the most controversial yet.No. 8 Alabama was the agent of chaos Saturday, upsetting No. 1 Georgia for the Southeastern Conference title and ending the two-time defending national champ’s 29-game winning streak.“Georgia was No. 1, right? You beat the No. 1 team, what does that make us?” Alabama quarterback Jalen Miltoe told reporters. If only it was so simple. With No. 2 Michigan and No. 4 Florida State still to play their conference title games, only one spot appeared locked up: No. 3 Washington (13-0) won the Pac-12 title Friday night. The field for the last CFP before it expands to 12 next year will be set Sunday, but sorting through this year’s unusually crowded group contenders might make the selection committee wish it could fast forward to the new format.Rarely in the nine years the national champion has been decided by a four-team playoff has the bracket failed to fall into place with little debate. In 2014...Sebastian Aho scores twice as Carolina Hurricanes cruise past Buffalo Sabres 6-2

A D.C. man was sentenced to 16 years in prison for his role in an armed carjacking at a gas station in Southeast last year.Prosecutors said that 38-year-old Andrew Patrick was found guilty last September of an armed carjacking offense that carries a 15-year mandatory-minimum sentence. On Sept. 22, 2022, a woman drove her 2005 Chevy Suburban to a gas station on Good Hope Road in Southeast D.C. when Patrick forced her to give up her keys at gunpoint, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. She pleaded for him not to harm her but he “pushed the victim into her vehicle, grabbed her keys, and drove off in her car,” a release outlined.Later that day, police caught Patrick in the woman’s car after a license plate reader identified the woman’s tags when he drove through Northeast. Police also discovered an unregistered gun in the car, prosecutors said. The woman gave a powerful testimony at the sentencing hearing saying how the event impacted her life and how it...Johnell Davis scores 24 points to lead No. 13 Florida Atlantic over Charleston 90-74

(AP) — Johnell Davis scored 24, and Vladislav Goldin added 17 points and 12 rebounds to propel No. 13 Florida Atlantic to a 90-74 victory over Charleston in the finale of the Field of 68 Tipoff.Coming off a performance without a field goal against Liberty in the Tipoff opener, Davis took over the Owls’ offense in the final 12 minutes. Davis, a junior, also grabbed 10 rebounds.“This was the fastest he looked in a long time,” FAU coach Dusty May said. “His first step was dynamic.”Reyne Smith led the Cougars (4-4) with 14 points. Back-to-back Davis buckets gave the Owls (7-1) their first lead of the second half, 56-55. The Owls never looked back.A physical game inside a charged Eleanor Baldwin Arena saw tempers flare several times. At one point, May and Charleston coach Pat Kelsey needed to be separated by referees.“I guess there was miscommunication during the game and something was said and I couldn’t hear, and then it just it escalated from there,” May said, adding,...Latest news
